Recommendations

  1. Prior acclimatization: Spend at least two days in Cusco or another high-altitude city to adapt to the climate and reduce the risk of altitude sickness.
  2. Physical condition: The Inca Trail is challenging, so it is recommended to be in good physical condition and train before your trip, especially on hikes with unevenness.
  3. Advance reservations: The Inca Trail has a limit of visitors per day, so it is essential to reserve your spot several months in advance.
  4. Proper equipment: Wear layered clothing to adapt to changes in temperature, sturdy and comfortable trekking boots, a waterproof jacket, hat and gloves.
  5. Sun protection: Wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat or cap to protect yourself from the sun, as UV exposure is intense at high altitude.
  6. Hydration: Carry a reusable water bottle or hydration system. Some agencies provide water during the tour, but it is always good to have your own.
  7. Energy snacks: Include snacks such as energy bars, nuts and dried fruits in your backpack to maintain your energy during long walks.
  8. Trekking poles: They are useful to reduce the impact on the knees and help on steep climbs and descents. Make sure they have rubber protectors.
  9. Suitable sleeping bag: Bring a sleeping bag suitable for low temperatures. At night in the camps it can get cold, especially in the winter months.
  10. Positive mindset and patience: The Inca Trail can be exhausting, but maintaining a positive attitude will help you enjoy the experience, landscapes, and history of the trail.
