Recommendations
Here are some specific recommendations for visiting Machu Picchu:
- Protect yourself from the sun: The sun can be very intense in Machu Picchu, especially during the sunny season. Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high protection factor (SPF), a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from UV rays.
- Wear light, breathable clothing: The weather in Machu Picchu can be warm during the day, so wear light, breathable clothing, such as short-sleeved t-shirts, light pants, and comfortable walking shoes.
- Carry enough water: Sun exposure and altitude can cause dehydration. Make sure you bring enough water to stay hydrated during your visit.
- Plan your visit early or late: During the sunny season, temperatures can be higher during midday. Consider visiting Machu Picchu early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the hottest hours of the day.
- Rest and seek shade: If you feel that the heat is too intense, look for shaded areas to rest and cool down. Carry an umbrella or seek shelter in nearby trees.
- Keep the altitude in mind: The altitude of Machu Picchu can affect your heat tolerance. Listen to your body and rest if you feel dizzy or short of breath due to the combination of altitude and heat.
- Be prepared for occasional rain: Although it is the sunny season, sporadic rain can still occur in Machu Picchu. Bring a waterproof jacket or poncho with you to protect yourself in case of rain.
- Check the weather forecast: Before your visit, check the weather forecast for Machu Picchu and prepare accordingly. If an extremely hot day is expected, consider adjusting your itinerary to avoid the hottest parts of the day.
